We know Ukraine. We love Ukraine.
And we want You to know and love it, too
Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra is certainly the main must see in Kyiv (after the Olympic Stadium, of course). It’s real Orthodox Mecca - every year Orthodox Christians all over the world make a pilgrimage to the Lavra’s shrines. The monastery is very ancient – it was founded at the Kievan Rus times of in the XIth century. Now there are a lot of beautiful temples of different eras and styles here, and the most unusual - caves!
Long ago these caves were inhabited by the monks, and now their holy relics are here. Visiting the cave is very unusual, full of mystery and light sacred tremor. After visiting the caves it seems that the sun shines brighter and even more impresses the wealth of the monastery museums.
One of them we are visiting the next:
On even days - the Jewelery Museum (it’s official name is the Museum of historical treasures of Ukraine). It’s collection can surely be called a chronicle of Ukraine, which is printed in gold, silver and precious stones from the Bronze Age to the present day. Cimmerian Weapons, clothing and ritual items of the Scythians, Sarmatians horses harness, jewels of the Huns, Avars, Pechenegs, Mongols and Tatars. Slavic artists and Western Europe jewellers articles, the Jewish religious silver and, of course, the famous Scythian gold pectoral – all those things really strongly impress.
On odd days - the Microminiatures Museum of master Mykola Syadristy. This is a place where you can see a shod flea and the world's smallest electromotor. But as it turned out, to shoe a flea was not the most difficult. Among the master’s works is a chic 0.05 millimetres rose, placed in the human hair polished inside and outside. And also the worlds smallest book and the caravan of camels in the needle's eye. You have a great chance to see all those surprising things and even more.
